We're an all-volunteer, member-run democratic socialist organization in the seven cities of Hampton Roads, Virginia.
About Tidewater DSA
Tidewater DSA is a local chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, the largest socialist organization in the U.S. We are a grassroots group that aims to improve workers’ conditions in the 757 through organizing, education, and connecting activists from different backgrounds.
We aim to end all forms of oppression. Our vision of socialism is democratic, feminist, and anti-racist. We organize both within and outside of electoral politics, but we’re not a political party. We believe local workers can achieve liberation through democratic organizing and class struggle. We welcome anyone who shares our vision for a better world.
The emancipation of the working classes must be conquered by the working classes themselves.
We represent a diverse and widespread grouping of localities in Hampton Roads and continue to expand our horizons when it comes to our activism, working with a variety of local partners in the region as one of the largest socialist organizations not only in Southeastern Virginia, but across this Commonwealth and the United States as a whole.
Our values
Democratic, all the way down
Members vote on priorities, leaders, and money. No top-down decisions.
Solidarity across the 757
The working class of our region is incredibly diverse. We organize together because our shared struggles are stronger than any divisions.
Organize and sustain
Winning requires both patience and decisive action. We organize relentlessly while providing the mutual aid needed to sustain our work.
